Automotive wheel manufacturer Steel Strips Wheels Limited (SSWL) announced that it has bagged a repeat order for approximately 1,30,000 steel wheels for the European Union (EU) caravan market. The steel wheels will be exported from SSWL’s Chennai plant from May 2018 onwards until a period of 6 months. The company stated this in its release to stock exchanges dated March 16, 2018.

The company is expected to close more export orders with other European clients in the near future. The repeat order makes SSWL a leading supplier of caravan steel wheels to the European region. This is SSWL’s second big order win in as many days. On March 15, 2018, it had announced the bagging of an order for 1,00,000 steel wheels to the EU caravan market, from May 2018 onwards until a period of 5 months.

SSWL recently (February 2018) commissioned additional capacity of 1.2mn at its Chennai truck wheel plant. This resulted in total truck wheel capacity for SSWL to 3mn wheels, making SSWL the largest truck wheel maker in India. The plant is operating at 90% utilization for the month of February and expected to attain 100% utilization from April 2018 onwards with firm order book from domestic and export customers. The plant will supply to customers in South India and export customers (through Chennai port)
