L&T bags order for navigation lock at Farakka

Larsen & Toubro (L&T) has bagged an order worth Rs 359 crore from Inland Waterways Authority of India (IWAI).
The contract is to build a new navigational barrage at Farakka in West Bengal, under the Jal Marg Vikas Project.
A navigational lock is a device used for raising and lowering ships/vessels between stretches of water of different levels on river and canal waterways.
The Jal Marg Vikas Project is being implemented with technical and financial assistance of the World Bank, at an estimated cost of Rs 5,369 crore, for plying of vessels with a capacity of 1,500-2,000 tonne.
