BHEL-led consortium bags Rs 16bn order in nuclear power area

Bharat Heavy Electricals (BHEL) today said its consortium with Alstom has won a Rs 16bn contract for steam turbine generators for the Kakrapur Nuclear Power Station in Gujarat.


The BHEL-Alstom consortium will supply the turbine generator packages for the two new 700 MW units of the Nuclear Power Station.


According to reports, valued at over Rs 1,600 crore, the contract has been placed on the BHEL-Alstom consortium by Nuclear Power Corporation of India Ltd (NPCIL) for its 2x700 MWe Kakrapur Nuclear Power Station.


"The project will contribute to India's plans to increase its nuclear capacity to 20 GW by 2020. With an existing installed capacity of 4,780 MW, nuclear power is currently the

fourth largest source of electricity in India after thermal, hydro and renewable energy," BHEL said.
