
Nine Metro trains to roll in for Mumbai Metro-3
The nodal agency executing the underground Colaba-Bandra-Seepz Metro 3 corridor has targeted bringing all nine rakes required to commence Phase-I services (Aarey-BKC) by June 2023.
The first rake has arrived for trials in Mumbai from Sri City, Andhra Pradesh, in July 2022. Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation (MMRCL) is currently conducting initial design-proving trial run of the first prototype train.
Second rake will arrive by the end of November 2022. As many as nine trains required for the commissioning of Phase-I which will be made available by June 23 and the remaining will arrive by May 2024.
MMRCL has placed orders for 31 rakes with Alstom. Each train will be immediately put on trial as and when it arrives.
All the rakes will be accommodated in the Metro-3 depot. Around 45 percent work on which will be completed by December 2022.
The depot work is now in progress. For Phase-I operations, facilities will be made ready by April and July 2023 the depot will be able to handle operations for the corridor though minor works may continue.
