The decks have been cleared for establishing eight new universities in Karnataka with the state cabinet approving a proposal to amend the Karnataka Universities Act, 2000.

Eight new universities will come up in Chamarajanagar, Haveri, Hassan, Kodagu, Koppal, Bagalkot, Bidar, and Mandya.

These places already have post-graduation centres which will be developed into universities. A total of Rs 14 crore had been earmarked towards the purpose.
