Alstom to manufacture 26 driverless trains for CMRL

The Chennai Metro Rail (CMRL) has awarded a contract worth Rs 947crore to Alstom Transport India.

The contract is for manufacturing 26 three-car driverless trains. These trains will be used in Phase-2 Metro corridors.

The company will have to deliver the first driverless train in 2024. The rest of the trains will be delivered within one year after that. The total completion time is around 40 months.

The scope of the work includes supply of driverless trains unattended train operation (UTO), which involves design, manufacture, testing, commissioning of standard gauge metro rolling stock, training of personnel, supply of spare parts and defect liability.
